9th Annual Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival
September 19th through September 21st, 2014

Autumn arrives with a weekend of wine, food, seminars and chefs

Three of Newport's most beautiful historic mansions will once again be filled with visitors and vendors celebrating the 9th Annual Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival, presented by The Preservation Society of Newport County and FOOD & WINE. Hundreds of wines from around the world will be poured, and a variety of cuisine from regional restaurants and caterers will be served, making the festival one of the East Coast's most sophisticated and anticipated events.

Television chef and author Sara Moulton and internationally-renowned lifestyle expert Martha Stewart will headline the Grand Tastings at Marble House, cooking on the Jenn-Air Master Class Culinary Stage on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Regional favorites also participating in the weekend cooking demonstrations include Michael Ferraro, Executive Chef of Delicatessen and creator of Mac Bar in New York City, and Dan Enos, Executive Chef & Managing Partner of Boston's Oceanaire Seafood Room.

Chocolate lovers will delight in Brian Donaghy's & Tim Brown's demonstration with Guittard Chocolate. Additionally, local chefs Karsten Hart, Executive Chef at Newport's Castle Hill Inn, Jonathan Cartwright, Executive Chef of MUSE at Vanderbilt Grace, and Champe Speidel of Persimmon will be sharing their talent and tips on stage.

Roost Cafe and Bistro, Ogunquit, ME

Recently, Tonia visited the Roost Cafe and Bistro in Ogunquit, Maine. The entire meal, created by Chef Chris Godfrey, was sumptuous. Fried Avocado Strips, a unique appetizer adorned with a gorgeous chipotle cream sauce, was followed by a scallop dish with a sausage bread pudding and then a fabulously flavorful chicken liver pate. This fine culinary experience ended with a scrumptious orange flan. Complementing each creatively displayed course was a warm vibe, lovely room and a bartender who served well crafted and potent cocktails.

Tonia recently visited The Mooring Restaurant in Newport, RI., where she enjoyed a spectacular display of the freshest seafood. Tonia spoke with Chef Bob Bankert about his luscious crab cakes, flavorful halibut and other delicacies served that evening. The meal was paired perfectly with fine wines- and the entire experience was supreme.

At the Fancy Food Show, this past June, Tonia's Kitchen sampled many delicacies. Blue Cheese was one of this year's stars; there were many versions, some with fruit, some ultra creamy... but our favorite leaned towards Moody Blue, by Roth.

Wines of Portugal

Tuesday, April 30, is Wines of Portugal - Grand Tasting, in NYC. Showcasing the range of Portugal's wines, from the dry reds of Bairrada to the delicious whites from Vinho Verde, more than 50 wineries will be presenting their latest vintages. International appetizers will also be served, showcasing an assortment of Portuguese dishes.

Taste of Hope

Taste of Hope is the American Cancer Society's annual signature culinary, wine and spirits event featuring some of New York's most popular chefs, restaurants and beverage vendors. Held on May 2, the fundraiser will feature a cocktail party atmosphere where guests can sample signature dishes, premier wines and spirits along with inventive cocktails.

Choice Streets

May 7 is The Village Voice's second annual Choice Streets Food Truck tasting event, on the Intrepid, NYC - and Tonia's Kitchen will be on deck. Featuring over 25 of some of the city's favorite and highly sought-after food trucks, attendees will feast onboard Pier 86 and enjoy an evening of fabulous food & cocktails.

Spirits of Mexico

The oldest, largest and most comprehensive celebration of agave-based spirits in North America, the Spirits of Mexico Festival, will begin its 2013 national tour at Astor Center in New York City on May 29. Guests will have the opportunity to sample dozens of signature styles of spirits produced in Mexico, attend seminars and sample Agave NY's signature cuisine.
